Talk:Grasp of Stribog

Back to page

Overpowered quite sadly. Totally out of league with Cruac 4 or even 5, and more fitting of Owod Thaumaturgy than the well-defined "Hexes and Curses" nature of NWoD Cruac...

Agreed; It is pretty powerful. My big problem with it, however, is that it defies the sickness of Cruac. A sorcerer capable of doing this can't have a humanity greater than five...how does traveling quickly work with that? Maybe if they rode some kind of blood horse or something....
However, I think it would be a better Theban ritual; the character could only travel, say 40 mph, and it would only last long enough that they had to stay in the city (or go to one that's very close by, like from DC to Baltimore). But it is a neat idea. --Atlastawake 15:46, 15 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Fair enough criticism. Its a near direct translation of the level 4 Koldunic Sorcery ritual from The Tzimsce Clan Book. As to its "power level", I'm not so sure that its that devistating. It basically allows one quick 3 dimensional movement outside. I can make it more detailed, adding some caveats, but I'm not sure what's overpowered. The Speed? I can tone that down. Putting it into distance per turn might make better sense anyway. The turning immaterial thing might be an issue (another hold overfrom the TCB), although I kinda like it, as a mood element. Mind you, one cannot use this ability to stay invulnerable. The ritual requires a definite destintination, and once you are there the ritual ends. While an excellent means of escape, it can't work to escape from inside a building or structure.

As for the themes of Cúac itself, I don't think its out of context. Flying witches are a pretty solid stereotype. Grasp of Stribog is also a master of the domain kinda spell allowing one to travel from one end of a domain to another. Anyway, if you guys offer some suggestions, I can try to modify it. --VladtheBad 20:25, 15 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I think if you tie it closer to the thematic idea of blood or death or despair, that would work as a cruac...like in the characters wake they leave the stench of decay or something...naturally it would have to work with the God its associated with. --Atlastawake 00:05, 16 Oct 2005 (UTC)

Some Changes Edit

I've added some limitations to the ritual so it won't be as ripe for abuse. The speed is now equivalent to a stong gust of wind (50mph), and the Koldunya only stays aloft for number of rounds equal to her successes. Basically the Koldunya turns into a puff of smoke and is blown to her destination, which is how I originally invisioned it, but never really explained very well :P Hope you like it. --VladtheBad 22:39, 16 Oct 2005 (UTC)
